Platforms for The Elder Scrolls 6 Are Still Unconfirmed, Release Expected in Over 5 Years

Bethesda Game Studios is known for their long development cycles between game releases. Following the launch of Starfield in September, the next highly anticipated game from the studio is The Elder Scrolls VI. However, fans should not expect the next installment in the franchise to be released anytime soon. Xbox boss Phil Spencer made it clear during his testimony in the ongoing FTC and Microsoft trial that The Elder Scrolls VI is at least five or more years away. In addition, he expressed uncertainty about which systems the game will be available on.

During the trial, Spencer was asked about console exclusivity for Bethesda games, including The Elder Scrolls VI. However, he was unable to provide a definitive answer because he himself does not know yet. This means that there is still uncertainty surrounding the platforms on which The Elder Scrolls VI will be released.

Spencer stated, “As I said, with Elder Scrolls VI, it’s so far out–it’s hard to understand what platforms will even be at this point. It’s the same team that’s finishing Starfield, which comes out this September. So we’re talking about a game that’s like five-plus years away.”

While it is unlikely that The Elder Scrolls VI will be released on a PlayStation system, Spencer’s statement suggests that even an Xbox Series X|S release is not guaranteed. Instead, it could potentially be developed for Microsoft’s next system, which may launch in 2028. If the game does take five or more years to release, it will have been in development for over a decade. It is worth noting that it has already been more than five years since The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced with a short concept logo at E3.

For those eager to see what Bethesda has in store, they can check out the gameplay deep-dive video for Starfield, which is slated to launch in September. As always, the final decision regarding platforms and exclusivity will ultimately be up to Bethesda and Microsoft.
