PlayStation Consoles Secure Future Call of Duty Releases Following Activision Blizzard Acquisition

Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Xbox’s head, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that the Call of Duty series will continue to be released on PlayStation consoles.

In a recent tweet, Phil Spencer announced that Microsoft and Sony have signed a binding agreement to ensure the availability of Call of Duty on PlayStation after the acquisition. While the duration of this agreement has not been specified, fans can expect to enjoy the latest entries of the series on both PlayStation consoles and Xbox systems, as well as PC, for the foreseeable future.

We are delighted to announce that Microsoft and PlayStation have reached a binding agreement to maintain Call of Duty’s presence on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where players worldwide have more freedom to enjoy their favorite games.

This agreement regarding Call of Duty marks one of the final chapters of this long story, which is now approaching its conclusion. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Microsoft had overcome the FTC’s request for a preliminary injunction to block the Activision Blizzard acquisition, with only the UK’s CMA as the remaining obstacle to the completion of the acquisition. As Microsoft and Activision Blizzard have expressed their willingness to sell cloud gaming rights in the UK to satisfy the local market regulator, it won’t be long before the acquisition is finalized, bringing an end to a prolonged saga.
