Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida has revealed that fans can expect the current PS5 exclusive to eventually make its way to PC. However, no specific timeline has been confirmed for its release on the platform.
While Final Fantasy 16 was launched on June 22 as a PS5 exclusive with a six-month exclusivity deal, it is anticipated that the game will become available on PC after the exclusivity period ends.
In a recent livestream covered by PC Gamer, co-producer Naoki Yoshida acknowledged that Square Enix has not prioritized the optimization of the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 due to their focus on preparing the PS5 version for launch.
Specifically, Yoshida mentioned that the studio is still working on optimizing the seamless loading screens of Final Fantasy 16 for PC.
Yoshida added, “We will provide more information about the PC version when the time is right. Please look forward to it.”
The PC release of Final Fantasy 16 has encountered some confusion over the past few years. Although the game was initially announced for both PS5 and PC, Square Enix later denied reports of a PC launch.
In March, Yoshida acknowledged that he would like to release Final Fantasy 16 on PC eventually. However, he cautioned fans not to expect an immediate release following the end of the exclusivity deal.
“First of all, it is true that Final Fantasy 16 is a six-month limited-time exclusive on the PS5 platform,” the producer clarified. “However, it is a completely different story for the PC version, which will not be released within six months. I want to make this clear.”
He continued, “We invested a significant amount of time and resources in optimizing the PS5 platform to provide the best gaming experience. While I do hope to release a PC version eventually, even if we start optimizing it after the PS5 version’s release, we will not be able to complete the optimization within a short span of six months.”
