PSU Hiring Through GATE 2022: List of PSUs, Jobs, and Eligibility

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted to select candidates who qualify for Post Graduate Engineering programs such as M.Tech, MS, M.E etc. Through the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the GATE 2022 will be conducted tentatively in February, with two new papers added to the total of 27 papers. Candidates are required to choose just one of the available options and score the maximum marks to qualify for the GATE merit list.

More than 50 PSUs will accept GATE scores in 2022. Under the leadership of IIT Kharagpur, the GATE 2022 will be held within 199 cities in India and six cities abroad. A qualifying GATE 2022 score can get you a job at a Public Service Undertaking. Through GATE, a candidate’s technical flair is tested through a rigorous 100 mark paper.

A Public Sector Undertaking is a government-run private company that shares its profits with the state. There are many ways to get a job at a PSU. This includes selection through examinations such as NET and GATE and direct selection. PSUs recruit candidates through the marking scored in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The results of GATE 2022 will take its meritorious candidates to companies such as NHAI, IRCON, DMRC, etc.

PSU Classification

Soon after independence, there was an effort to nationalise various companies to strengthen Indian production and productivity. Through the Narsimhan committee, the government undertook many privately owned entities that could shift their focus from generating a profit and instead contribute to the country’s economy. This is how the PSUs were born.

Candidates with an in-depth knowledge of technology, along with a basic understanding of engineering, can secure a job at PSUs. GATE 2022, a post-engineering examination, is an ideal pool of recruitment for the PSUs.

There are many ways to classify PSUs. However, the different kinds can get bifurcated into Maharatnas (NTPC, BHEL, IOCL, ONGC, GAIL), Navratnas (BEL, BPCL, HAL, HPCL, MTNL), and Miniratnas (AAI, BSNL, CCIL, MECL, NSICL).

As per the holdings, Indian PSUs are classified into three sections:

  1. Central Public-sector Enterprise: Central government retains most shares and has 51% or more undertaking in the company.
  2. Public Sector Banks: Government retains the majority of shares and has 51% or more undertakings in the bank.
  3. State Level Public Enterprise: State Government owns most shares and has a 51% or more undertaking in the company.
