Reportedly, Vanessa Pappas, the COO of TikTok, has decided to step down.

V. Pappas, the chief operating officer of TikTok, has resigned, as first reported by The Information. In a memo posted to Twitter, Pappas informed the staff about their decision to step down from the position of COO. They believe it’s the “right time to move on and refocus.” However, Pappas will continue to contribute to TikTok in an advisory capacity.

“I believe it’s the perfect time for me to pursue my entrepreneurial passions, considering all the achievements TikTok has made,” writes Pappas. “The last five years have surpassed everyone’s expectations, and with the remarkable advancements in generative AI, robotics, renewable energy, genomics, blockchain, and the IoT, the future is bound to be even more transformative.”

TikTok has not responded to the request for comment at this time.

For a long time, Pappas served as the face of TikTok in the United States, making important announcements and discussing the company’s future plans and programming. However, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has recently taken on a more prominent and public role, appearing before Congress and interacting directly with users through TikTok videos.

Before joining TikTok, Pappas spent nearly eight years at YouTube, leading audience and insights teams. In 2018, they took on the role of US general manager at TikTok. Pappas briefly served as the interim CEO of TikTok in 2020 before assuming the position of COO in April 2021.
