Shawn Mendes performed his first show since taking a break for mental health reasons, and fans were thrilled.
The Canadian-born singer joined Ed Sheeran on stage during his Toronto tour stop. They performed Mendes’ “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” and Sheeran’s “Lego House.”
Sheeran commemorated the collaboration with a heartwarming Instagram video of their performance. “What a moment,” wrote the “Shape of You” singer. “Me and @shawnmendes on stage in his hometown. Wish I could bottle the feeling and keep opening it to experience that excitement again. So much fun. Thank you for singing with me, man. So good to have you back.”
Sheeran’s video also captured the ecstatic reactions of the fans.
“What a reaction! I’ve only experienced that three times in my life at concerts,” Sheeran said, referring to shows by Paolo Nutini in Glasgow, Stormzy in London, and now Shawn Mendes.
It had been a year and a half since Mendes last performed live. “I started shaking,” he admitted. “I actually feel a bit speechless about it right now.”
