Riot Games is set to launch an exciting summer event that will span all of its Runeterra titles. The event, called Soul Fighters, is scheduled to run for six weeks and will encompass games like League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra. Starting on July 20, this event draws inspiration from renowned fighting games such as Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6. It promises an array of fresh content, including new game modes, skins, and exciting gameplay features.
Set in an alternate universe, the event centers around the “Tournament of Souls,” where beloved characters from the Runeterra universe will engage in fierce battles within the context of a mysterious organization known as the God’s Eye. According to the press release, competitors will fight until only one remains standing.
Andrei van Roon, the head of League Studio, provided insight into what players can expect. He stated, “Arena, Soul Brawl, and Tag Duel will offer players fresh and innovative experiences with League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift, respectively. We are eager to see how players respond to these new additions.”
In addition to an assortment of cosmetics and skins, the upcoming game modes hold great promise. League of Legends is set to introduce a new Arena mode as part of the summer event, offering intense battles between four teams of two players across four distinct battlefields. League will also introduce a new metagame that allows players to assume the role of Samira, a participant in the Tournament of Souls. By playing League games, players can earn reputation and unlock new abilities for Samira in a “style-rating-focused combo battler.”
Teamfight Tactics will also have its own unique narrative experience, set within the Tournament of Souls universe. Meanwhile, Wild Rift will introduce a Tag Duel mode, allowing players to switch champions on the fly. Although Legends of Runeterra doesn’t seem to be receiving new modes, it will offer a range of cosmetics and a brand-new event pass.
