Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse regains its position as the top film at the Weekend Box Office, while The Flash continues to struggle.

Spider-Verse continues to impress, with the sequel reclaiming the number one spot at the weekend box office. Disney’s confirmation for the estimates of Elemental took some time, but the official results are in: Spidey reigns once again. The film earned $19.3 million, climbing back to the top in its fourth week of release. This brings its domestic gross to $317 million, putting it close to becoming the biggest film of the summer, just behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With its impressive hold, it has a chance to reach that top spot. Over the weekend, it only dropped by 29%. At this point, I must admit that my Summer Box Office Preview needs revision. I have learned some valuable lessons, which we will discuss at the end of the summer.

Spider-Verse Emerges Victorious Against Elemental

Spider-Verse successfully fends off competition from another animated film, Pixar’s Elemental. Despite starting low, Elemental maintains a strong hold in its second week, earning $18 million and experiencing only a 38% drop. This indicates positive word-of-mouth for the film, although its initial box office numbers may not be significant. It still has the potential to reach $100 million if it maintains this level of performance. The third spot goes to The Flash, which is now considered a box office failure. It suffered a steep 72% drop in its second weekend, earning an additional $15.2 million. WB must rely on James Gunn to salvage the situation. Taking fourth place is No Hard Feelings, a comedy starring Jennifer Lawrence, which exceeded pre-release expectations with an opening of $15.1 million. These two films may switch positions before the final tally. Rounding out the top five is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, earning $11 million. It is performing well considering initial predictions, accumulating a total gross of $122 million in three weeks.

The top five films at the weekend box office on June 23rd were:

  1. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse – $19.3 million
  2. Elemental – $18 million
  3. The Flash – $15.2 million
  4. No Hard Feelings – $15.1 million
  5. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts – $11 million

Next week, Indiana Jones returns for his final adventure with Dial of Destiny hitting theaters. The reviews have been mixed, but its success may not be affected. The disappointing opening of The Flash concerns Disney, as it heavily relied on nostalgia for Michael Keaton, which ultimately fell short. Nevertheless, I believe Indiana Jones has a loyal fan base, and I predict an opening of $77 million, dethroning Spider-Verse from the top spot.
