Washington [US], May 13 (ANI): Dax Shepard, the American actor, is taking his popular podcast ‘Armchair Expert’ exclusively to Spotify this summer, inking an exclusive deal with the audio platform.
According to Variety, starting July 1, all existing and new episodes of ‘Armchair Expert’, co-hosted by Shepard and Emmy-nominated producer Monica Padman, will be available exclusively on Spotify under the multiyear exclusive license agreement.
Similar to other podcasts on Spotify, ‘Armchair Expert’ will be accessible to listeners for free with advertisements. This move follows Spotify’s exclusive deal for ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast last year and their increasing focus on original podcasts.
‘Armchair Expert’ is produced by Rob Holysz, Monica Padman, and Dax Shepard. Additionally, Spotify has obtained first-look rights for other podcasts under the Armchair Umbrella Network.
Expressing excitement about the podcast’s move to Spotify, Shepard stated, “Moving to Spotify is a tremendous opportunity for us. I am particularly grateful for the work Monica and Rob have put in to bring us to this point. We are all thrilled to continue doing what we love most in the coming years.”
With this partnership, Shepard will retain editorial oversight and creative control over all Armchair productions, similar to the arrangement Spotify has with Joe Rogan, although Spotify has removed certain past episodes of “The Joe Rogan Experience” from its platform.
The ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, which Shepard launched in 2018, is a weekly series featuring in-depth interviews with celebrities, artists, authors, and experts.
Prominent guests on the show have included John Legend, Bill Gates, Salma Hayek, Shawn Mendes, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Tom Brady, Leslie Odom Jr., Matthew McConaughey, Dr. Jane Goodall, Malcolm Gladwell, Alicia Keys, Hillary Clinton, and Laura Labo (Shepard’s mother). Frequent guest appearances are also made by actor Kristen Bell, Shepard’s wife.
In the podcast series, Shepard has also openly discussed his battle with opiate addiction. In September last year, he revealed to his listeners that he had relapsed after 16 years of sobriety.
Aside from his podcast, Shepard is known for his role as Crosby Braverman on NBC’s ‘Parenthood’ and has recently appeared in the Netflix series ‘The Ranch’ and ABC’s ‘Bless This Mess’.
Currently, Shepard can be seen as one of the hosts of ‘Top Gear America’ on Discovery’s MotorTrend streaming app. He has also acted in and directed films such as ‘Without a Paddle’, ‘Idiocracy’, ‘Hit and Run’, and ‘CHIPS’.(ANI)
