There is exciting news for fans of the Star Ocean series, as a logo for Star Ocean: The Second Story R has been discovered on the official Square Enix support site. This suggests that the publisher may be working on a remaster or remake of Star Ocean 2.
According to RPGSite.net’s report, the Square Enix support website briefly featured the logo for Star Ocean: The Second Story R. Although the logo has since been removed and the website now only displays a placeholder banner, the logo was captured and is included below for your viewing pleasure.
For those unfamiliar, The Second Story is the subtitle of Square Enix’s second installment in the popular RPG series, Star Ocean 2, which was originally released on the PlayStation in 1999/2000 (1998 in Japan). In 2008/2009, the game received an enhanced remaster for the PSP called Star Ocean: Second Evolution. This remaster eventually made its way to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita in Japan. However, the logo for Star Ocean: The Second Story R suggests that this may be a remaster or remake of the original PlayStation version.
While this discovery isn’t an official confirmation of a remaster or remake of Star Ocean 2, it’s worth noting that Square Enix has previously released a remaster of the first Star Ocean game for PS4 and Switch. So there is a possibility that this rumored remaster/remake of Star Ocean 2 will receive similar treatment.
We will provide updates as soon as more information about a possible remaster or remake becomes available. In the meantime, stay tuned for further updates.
