As Virat Kohli puts it, the reason for that incredible turnaround was that the players started to express themselves. With nothing to lose, they played for their own self-respect, and that proved to be the catalyst in RCB’s reversal in fortunes.
Kohli admitted that the team’s performance in the first half of the season was below par, saying they did not live up to the expected standards.

“To be very honest, the first half of the season was really under par. Performance from us, the standards that we have as cricketers, we were not living up to those standards,” said Kohli after the RR vs RCB game, reflecting on the team’s IPL 2024 journey in a video shared on the team’s social handles.
“And then, you know, we just started expressing ourselves, started playing for our own self-respect and then the confidence came back and the way we turned things around and we qualified was truly special. Something that I’ll always, always cherish and remember because it took a lot of character and heart from each member of this team, something that we can be really proud of. And eventually we played the way that we wanted to play,” said Kohli on the turnaround of fortunes.
