Tamil Nadu man claims he was denied entry to Virat Kohli’s restaurant in Mumbai

New Delhi,UPDATED: Dec 3, 2023 14:55 IST

A video that has gone viral on social media shows a man, dressed in veshti, claiming that he was denied entry to one of Virat Kohli’s restaurants in Mumbai’s Juhu, One8 Commune. The reason, he claims, was his outfit.

IndiaToday.in couldn’t ascertain the identity of the man whose video has managed to grab over 1 million views. He can be heard saying that he landed in Mumbai and went straight to his hotel (JW Marriott) where he checked in. Without wasting any time, he rushed to visit One8 Commune’s Juhu branch.

However, he claimed that he was not even allowed to enter the restaurant as the staff barred him from doing so owing to his outfit. The staff allegedly stopped him from entering the restaurant as his outfit was not in accordance with the restaurant’s dress code.

The man can be seen wearing a white shirt and veshti, a white unstitched cloth wrap tied in the waist, mainly worn in Tamil Nadu.

The video triggered mixed reactions on social media. While some people were of the opinion that it was nothing against the culture, but it only meant adhering to a certain dress code specified by the restaurant, others took offence to the man’s claim.

“Its nothing against your culture..they have denied me entry in shorts and slippers because it’s their dress code which has to be followed to enter..whether to have a code or not can be a topic of debate..but dont make it a topic of ‘being against culture’,” a user wrote.

“Virat is not responsible for what happened, the staff present there at that time is responsible. This problem could have been solved by informing the manager there but then how do you get reach on social media,” another user wrote.
