In an effort to engage with the sneaker culture, DeLorean has introduced a unique membership club and exchange program inspired by the popular business model seen in companies such as StockX, according to Wynne.

For individuals interested in owning an Alpha5, DeLorean requires a payment of a $88 membership fee. This number pays homage to the iconic speed of 88 miles per hour, which is essential for the car to travel through time in the beloved “Back to the Future” films. Once becoming a member, people gain the ability to reserve a production slot, which is assigned randomly and comes with a valuable NFT. Initially priced at $2,500, the reservation cost increases by $500 after every 500 slots are reserved. Through the exchange program, members have the opportunity to transfer, trade, or sell their slots to other members while also enjoying exclusive access to early product releases and VIP events.

De Vries revealed an impressive statistic of 20,000 registered members across 69 countries. The membership system has provided the company with valuable customer profiles, which will inform future marketing strategies and decisions, as noted by de Vries.

Furthermore, de Vries hinted at an upcoming product launch in early next year. Although reluctant to disclose specific details, De Vries confirmed that this new product aims to target the more traditionalist segment of their customer base. While DMC did not confirm if this new product is another car, Ogando teased the existence of undisclosed future models.

Based on their research, de Vries emphasized that the younger demographic tends to gravitate towards retro-inspired designs rather than modern ones. In contrast, the Alpha5 appeals to a more traditional audience, typically between the ages of 45 and 55, who have an emotional connection to the brand but may not resonate with the DMC-12.
