No other details were immediately available from police. All 12 jurors and six alternates were being selected for Donald Trump’s first criminal trial, which will begin on Monday with opening arguments. The former president was seen talking to an agent after the fire incident outside the courthouse.
CNN’s Laura Coates, who was at the scene, said: “I see a totally charred human being.”
A journalist on social media wrote: “The man could be seen kneeling with his hands behind his head as his body lit on fire. He eventually fell over and screamed in pain while on the ground. Something appeared to fly from his body as a group of people rushed to try to put the fire out. He is likely dead.”
“Oh my god. Someone set themselves on fire outside the courthouse where Trump’s trial is happening,” another person reacted on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.
“This is what happens when you glorify mental sickness and call it resistance. Shame on every monster who called Aaron Bushnell a hero,” a third one said.
