Understanding the Mechanics of Lucky Hit in Diablo IV

Diablo IV, like its predecessors, is brimming with a plethora of gameplay mechanics that can be utilized to empower characters, ensuring they can effortlessly handle high-level enemies at World Tiers. Understanding and harnessing these mechanics is key, and while many are straightforward, the Lucky Hit mechanics require a strategic approach to fully exploit their potential.

How Does Lucky Hit Work in Diablo IV?

In Diablo IV, Lucky Hit refers to the chance that an offensive skill has to trigger an additional effect upon striking. Each offensive skill in the game has a specific chance, which can be viewed in the skill tree of each class by enabling the Advanced Tooltip option in the gameplay menu.

On its own, Lucky Hit doesn’t activate any effects. It requires an additional skill or Aspect to define the effect triggered by a successful hit. For instance, the Rogue’s Penetrating Shot skill has a 50% chance of a Lucky Hit, meaning every other shot will be a Lucky Hit. The specific effect triggered by a Lucky Hit is determined by the Key Passive Exposure in my build, which activates different effects when a Lucky Hit connects with enemies affected by a Trap Skill like Poison Trap. Consequently, my combat strategy involves using Poison Trap first and then utilizing Penetrating Shot to activate any or all of the effects granted by the Exposure Key Passive.

However, this represents only a basic approach towards maximizing the potential of Lucky Hit in Diablo IV. By acquiring multiple skills and utilizing Aspects in your equipment, for example, you can trigger multiple effects with a single Lucky Hit. With a stroke of extreme luck, you could activate all assigned effects with a solitary hit. In my present Rogue build, I have also learned the Victimize skill which boasts the chance to cause an explosion when dealing direct damage to Vulnerable enemies. Hence, if I first unleash a Trap skill and then inflict Vulnerability on affected enemies, I increase my chances of triggering numerous potent effects. Mastering these mechanics can transform seemingly weak skills into invaluable assets, providing yet another avenue for creating devastating builds.
