Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson stunned spectators with a sensational run-out during the third T20I against Afghanistan in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The high-octane moment that unfurled in the 18th over will be a scene etched in the memories of fans for a long time.

Sanju Samson’s quick reflexes lead to stunning run out

The over, delivered by Mukesh Kumar, began with a tense standoff. Kumar’s full delivery outside off, was met with a forceful drive by Afghan batsman Gulbadin Naib. However, the ball took veered off the inside edge towards the left of a vigilant Samson. Karim Janat, Naib’s partner, hastily called for a run, unaware of the drama that was about to unfold.

Naib, caught off-guard and unsure of the ball’s whereabouts, hesitated, leaving Janat in a perilous sprint. But Samson, with eyes like a hawk and reflexes to match, swooped in. In one fluid, almost balletic motion, he gathered the ball and unleashed a thunderbolt of a throw towards the non-striker’s end.

The precision was impeccable, the execution flawless – the ball hitting the bullseye and catching Janat woefully short of his crease. The sight of Janat losing his bat midway only added to the dramatic flair of the moment. His desperate dive fell short, and he was dismissed for a mere 2 runs.

Meanwhile, despite India’s formidable score of 212/4, the Afghan team, known for their incredible spirit and resilience, refused to yield. The chase was highlighted by an impressive start with fifties from openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran.

Contributions from Mohammad Nabi and Naib’s explosive batting, including a blistering fifty off just 21 balls, kept the Afghan hopes alive. The nail-biting match saw Afghanistan bringing the equation down to 5 runs off the final 2 balls, eventually tying the score and pushing the match into a Super Over.
