WATCH: Vaughan Shares Video of Kohli Dismissing Hafeez as Twitter Banter Between 2 Ex-Captains Continues

Michael Vaughan is pretty active on social media as his banters with ex-India cricketer Wasim Jaffer never fail to entertain the fans. But the former England captain seems to have found a new rival in Mohammed Hafeez as both have set the social space ablaze with their remarks on each other.

Last Sunday, Virat Kohli batted patiently on a challenging Eden Gardens track while facing the South African attack in India’s penultimate group-stage game. In due process, he notched up his 49th ODI hundred and equalled the long-standing record of legendary Sachin Tendulkar of most tons in the 50-over format. While the ace batter was hugely praised for laying the foundation of India’s 8th consecutive win in the ongoing World Cup, former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez called it a ‘selfish knock’.

Speaking on a Pakistan news channel, Hafeez said he observed a ‘sense of selfishness’ in Kohli’s knock against the Proteas, alleging that the latter targeted individual milestones. Hafeez’s comments made quite a stir on social media with former England skipper Michael Vaughan rubbishing them on microblogging site X.

Reacting to the video clip of Hafeez, Vaughan said, “Come on @MHafeez22 !!! India have hammered 8 teams playing great cricket .. @imVkohli. now has 49 tons and his last was an anchor role innings on a tricky pitch .. His team won by over 200 !!!! This is utter nonsense..”

Later on Wednesday, Hafeez tagged Vaughan after Ben Stokes hit his maiden World Cup hundred, guiding England to their second and much-needed win in the ongoing tournament. The dynamic all-rounder scored 108 off 84 balls as England defeated Netherlands by 160 runs to end a 5-match losing streak.

“Saviour of the ship @benstokes38. Good 100 under pressure anchoring the innings where required with aggressive intent to get Maximum runs for the team to win at the end. Sheer example to differentiate Selfish vs Selfless approach @MichaelVaughan,” Hafeez wrote.

Vaughan agreed with Hafeez on Stokes’ brilliance but also stood firm on his take on Kohli.

In another post, Vaughan shared an old picture of Kohli dismissing Hafeez in an India vs Pakistan encounter (in the 2012 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka), calling it the probable reason why the former Pakistan all-rounder kept attacking the Indian batter.

And the banter continued with Vaughan sharing the video of Hafeez’s dismissal to Kohli on microblogging site X on Thursday morning.

“Morning @MHafeez22 .. Have a great day,” Vaughan wrote.
