During the Annecy Fest, it was officially announced that Charlie Grandy & Mindy Kaling’s “Scooby-Doo” prequel series Velma will be returning for a highly anticipated second season.

Charlie Grandy, Mindy Kaling, and Warner Bros. Animation’s Velma are set to make a triumphant return with a second season. The exciting news was revealed by Suzanna Makkos, the Executive Vice President of Original Comedy and Adult Animation at Max and Adult Swim, during today’s session at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Although this alternate, adult animation take on the “Scooby-Doo” franchise wasn’t universally embraced by fans of the previous iterations, it garnered enough popularity to warrant the green light for a second season, which has been speculated about for the past few months.

As part of a presentation on upcoming projects, the streaming service unveiled a sizzle reel showcasing its plans in the realm of adult animation. Viewers were treated to the official trailer for the second season of the Max Original series Ten Year Old Tom and a sneak peek image from the Max Original series Young Love. The presentation also revealed exciting updates on other projects like Anything Factory, Uptown Bodega, and Keeping Up With the Joneses. Fans of Harley Quinn can look forward to the fourth season premiering this summer, with a spinoff centered around Kite-Man now titled Kite-Man: Hell Yeah! Additionally, there was a strong focus on Clone High, which is currently in production for its second season slated for a 2024 debut. Other intriguing projects include Fired on Mars, Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake, Scavengers Reign, and Creature Commandos, which represents the first collaboration between DC Studios’ co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.

In a profile interview with Deadline Hollywood back in February, Channing Dungey, Chairman & CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, provided insights into the upcoming projects at WBTV. Included in the interview was confirmation of a second season for the “Scooby-Doo” spinoff series Velma, an adult animated comedy created by Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy. The show had the distinction of being the most-watched animated series debut on the streaming service. The talented voice cast includes Sam Richardson as Shaggy, Constance Wu as Daphne, and Glenn Howerton as Fred. Notable guest voices featured throughout the series include Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Ming-Na Wen, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Sarayu Blue, Nicole Byer, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap Vilaysak, and Karl-Anthony Towns. Kaling and showrunner Charlie Grandy will serve as executive producers alongside Howard Klein and Sam Register.
