WhatsApp Beta Version Allows Testers to Try New Voice Chats, ‘Send for Admin Review’ Features

WhatsApp beta, the testing version of the popular messaging app, has introduced a new feature in its latest update. Previously referred to as audio chats, this feature allows users to initiate voice calls within a group. Additionally, a recent beta update has included a feature that enables users to send messages to group admins for review, thereby enhancing group administration on the platform. These features are expected to be rolled out to users on the stable channel at a later date.

With the latest update to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.16.19, select beta testers will have access to a feature known as voice chats, as observed by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. This feature revolutionizes group audio calls by replacing the call icon with a waveform icon. By tapping on the icon, users can initiate a voice chat that other group members can join. Unlike a regular group voice call, these voice chats will not ring the users’ phones; instead, all group members will receive a push notification.

WABetaInfo has shared screenshots of this feature, showcasing its functionality within a group. Once a voice chat is initiated, members of the group can join and participate as if it were a regular audio call. According to WABetaInfo, idle calls will be automatically terminated after an hour. It is worth noting that WhatsApp’s existing call limitations will also apply to voice chats, with a maximum of 32 members being able to join at a time.

On the other hand, the recent WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.16.18, which was released over the weekend, reportedly introduces a new feature aimed at improving group moderation. The group settings section now includes a toggle called “Send for admin review,” enabling group members to send messages to the group’s admin for review.

While users currently have the ability to report messages sent by other users on WhatsApp, the messaging service has now allowed group admins to delete messages in order to enhance moderation within the app. Once this feature is enabled, users can report specific messages sent within the group to admins for removal, as noted by WABetaInfo. This feature enables admins to easily catch any missed messages when they are away from their phones.

WhatsApp has not announced a specific timeline for the rollout of these features to all users. Gadgets 360 has been unable to confirm the availability of these features after updating to the latest version of the app. This suggests that they may require a server-side update, and users who install the latest beta version may have access to these features in the coming days.
