WhatsApp rolls out new feature for everyone, lets you pin up to 3 messages in a chat

WhatsApp has released a new feature for everyone which allows users to conveniently pin up to three messages within a chat, enhancing accessibility. Previously limited to pinning just one message, this update marks a significant improvement in organising conversations.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp Head Will Cathcart both revealed this feature via their respective WhatsApp Channels. The capability to pin messages was initially introduced for both one-on-one and group chats in December last year.

This functionality extends to all message types, including text, images, and polls, making pinned messages invaluable for quickly accessing vital information such as a friend’s address or the venue for a planned outing with a group.

To pin a message, users simply need to long-press on it and select the “Pin” option. Additionally, users can specify the duration for which the message remains pinned — ranging from 24 hours to 30 days — to ensure relevance and organisation within the chat.

It’s important to note that messages pinned for longer durations, such as addresses, will require re-pinning after 30 days, as there is no option for indefinite pinning. Alternatively, users can “Star” a message to access it via the contact information menu. The new feature is available for all WhatsApp users.

Besides, WhatsApp recently rolled out a new beta version of its messaging app, introducing an enhanced app lock feature. This latest update, which is currently available for select users, offers more authentication options beyond biometric recognition. People who are in the beta program of WhatsApp will be able to try this feature. Users now have the flexibility to use other unique identifiers, including their device’s passcode. Previously, the app lock feature solely relied on biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition.

In addition to the new app lock feature, some will see a new feature in the Android 2.24.6.16 version. It comprises chat filters that are displayed at the top of their conversation list. These filters enable users to streamline their chat view by displaying chats of specific types. WhatsApp has added dedicated filters for showcasing unread conversations and accessing a list of group chats quickly.
