Wimbledon Urges Fans to Utilize Quiet Room for Prayer, Breastfeeding – Not for Sexual Activities

There have been reports of couples engaging in amorous activities in the secluded space near Court 12, which has caused discomfort for other visitors.

Sally Bolton, the chief executive of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, emphasized the importance of the “sanctuary” and called for respectful use of the room. While the space can be utilized for prayer and breastfeeding, she stated, “It’s a genuinely significant space. Therefore, we will ensure that it is maintained and that people are using it appropriately,” as reported by The Telegraph.

Furthermore, she added, “If individuals require a space for prayer, it should be used as a quiet space for that purpose. It also provides an opportunity for breastfeeding. However, we expect it to be utilized correctly.”

In 2022, witnesses reported observing couples leaving the room with sheepish expressions and indications of satisfaction. There were also accounts of hearing intimate sounds emanating from the room, raising concerns about its proper usage. Officials have emphasized that the room should not be used for intimate activities.

The quiet room was originally designated as a safe haven where visitors could seek solitude away from the crowds, offering an opportunity for prayer, meditation, or shelter from the sun, as reported by The Telegraph.

As this year’s Wimbledon commenced, officials reiterated the purpose of the quiet room and urged individuals to respect its intended use.

The official access guide for the 2023 tournament at Wimbledon describes the quiet room as a tranquil sanctuary located in the Southern Village, providing guests with a serene environment for prayer, meditation, or simply being present in the moment. It stated, “Situated in the Southern Village, this sanctuary offers guests a peaceful space for prayer, meditation, or simply being present in the moment.”
