Yashasvi Jaiswal among four players nominated for ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award

India opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has been nominated for the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award, alongside South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee, Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka and New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra.

Jaiswal had a year to remember in 2023, as he broke in the Indian Test and T20I squads following a brilliant IPL 2023. Jaiswal was the fifth-highest scorer in IPL 2023, amassing 625 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 48.07, while striking at 163.61.

He made a brilliant Test debut for India, smashing 171 runs against the West Indies, becoming the 17th Indian player to score a ton on Test debut . He went on to score 288 runs in three matches, at an average of 57.60, cementing his spot in India’s Test setup. Jaiswal also played 15 T20Is in 2023, scoring 430 runs at the average of 33.07, while striking at 159.25.

Jaiswal scored a hundred and a fifty in three Tests, while smashing three fifties and a century in T20Is. Jaiswal was also part of India’s Asian Games 2023 winning squad.

Rachin Ravindra

The New Zealand all-rounder was one of the stars of the 2023 ODI World Cup, scoring 578 runs at an average of 64.22 in 10 matches. He made a brilliant ODI World Cup debut, smashing 123 runs off 96 balls against 2020 champions England.

Following his World Cup exploits, Chennai Super Kings shelled out Rs 2 crore to secure his services for IPL 2024.

He notched up 820 runs in ODIs at an average of 41 in 2023, while also picking 18 wickets at an economy of 6.02. In T20Is, Rachin scored 91 runs at an average of 18.20, while claiming 5 wickets.

Gerald Coetzee

The South Africa pacer has also been nominated after lighting up the 2023 ODI World Cup. The right-arm fast-bowler picked up 20 wickets in eight matches, with an impressive strike rate of 19.05.

In 2023, Coetzee picked 31 wickets in ODIs at an economy of 6.48, 10 wickets in Tests at an economy of 3.87, and six wickets in T20Is at an economy of 10.50.

Due to his impressive performances for South Africa in the World Cup, Coetzee was snapped up by 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians for Rs 4.80 crore.

Dilshan Madushanka

The Sri Lanka speedster was also one of the bright stars of the 2023 ODI World Cup, claiming 21 wickets in nine matches for his nation. Madushanka was also roped in by Mumbai Indians for the 2023 season of the IPL.

In 2023, the left-arm pacer picked 15 ODI wickets at an economy of 24.06, while claiming 12 T20I wickets at an economy of 9.80.
