Tilak Verma to play ODI World Cup 2023? Rohit Sharma breaks silence amid calls for his inclusion in squad

Tilak Verma has consistently impressed the cricket fraternity whenever he has stepped onto the field, whether during the Indian Premier League (IPL) or the India vs West Indies T20 series. Even when the entire batting order was collapsing against the formidable West Indies bowlers, Verma stood his ground and played exceptionally well in all three T20s so far. His outstanding performance has started generating buzz within the team, with players like Ravichandran Ashwin even calling for his inclusion in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad.

Although it is highly unlikely that Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel will choose the young Tilak Verma, the current performance of Team India in a World Cup year showcases the need for out-of-the-box decisions. Despite the fact that West Indies did not even qualify for the World Cup, we struggled against them during the ODI and T20 matches.

What Rohit Sharma said on World Cup squad

Skipper Rohit Sharma has nothing but praise for Tilak Verma, having witnessed his approach to batting as the captain of Mumbai Indians. Sharma emphasizes Verma’s awareness of his batting and his ability to choose the right time and place to score runs. The skipper acknowledges Verma’s talent and maturity, stating that he knows his batting inside-out and has displayed it in the matches he has played for India.

“He looks very promising. I have observed him for two years now, and he possesses great hunger, which is crucial,” Rohit said. “For his age, he is remarkably mature. He has a deep understanding of his batting – where to hit and what to do in that specific period of time.”

“That’s all I will say about him. I don’t know about the World Cup and all, but he is undeniably talented, and he has proven that in the few games he has played for India,” he added.
