Aussie Wimbledon Stocks Suffer as Ajla Tomljanovic Withdraws Due to Knee Injury

Unfortunately, Ajla Tomljanovic, Australia’s top-ranked woman, will not be returning to the court at Wimbledon. This comes after her withdrawal from the Australian Open and Roland-Garros due to knee surgery. Despite her hopes of making a comeback for the grass court season, the 30-year-old confirmed on Instagram that her knee is still not ready.

“After experiencing many special emotions and memories at Wimbledon over the last few years, I had very high hopes of making my return there this year,” she wrote.

“Unfortunately, my knee is still asking for just a bit more time before I can have full confidence in it in order to play at my best level.”

During Wimbledon in 2022, Tomljanovic reached the quarter-final, where she was defeated by eventual champion Elena Rybakina. She expressed her eagerness to return to the court but acknowledged that Wimbledon came too soon this year. She is already looking forward to next year’s tournament.

The Australian contingent at Wimbledon will be led by Daria Saville, who is also on the road to recovery from an ACL injury.

Wimbledon action is set to begin on July 3.
