After a stunning comeback last week, Australia has positioned itself strongly to retain the Ashes once again following an impressive performance on the first day of the second Test at Lord’s.
Australia was asked to bat first after England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and made almost no mistakes, finishing the day at 5-339.
Leading the charge for the tourists was Steve Smith with an unbeaten 85, while Travis Head (77) and David Warner (66) also made valuable contributions.

Bairstow handles pitch-invader with finesse
The second Ashes Test got off to a bizarre start with several ground invaders causing a delay of at least five minutes.
The culprits, who were seen throwing orange powder, were members of an environmental activist group from the UK called Just Stop Oil.
England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow swiftly removed one of the protesters from the field at Lord’s.
Bairstow then had to head to the changing room, presumably to change his clothes.

England puzzled by DRS decision
England’s day at the office became even more frustrating with a series of unsuccessful DRS calls during the middle session.
With the match evenly poised, England thought they had dismissed both Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, only for the reviews to save them.
Stuart Broad also believed he had trapped Labuschagne lbw with an inswinger, but once again the review system worked in Australia’s favor.

Ashes debutant’s brilliant delivery dismisses Warner
David Warner finally found his form with a well-made half-century on the first day.
However, his innings was cut short by a fantastic delivery from England’s debutant Josh Tongue.
The vicious inswinger, described by Australian captain Ricky Ponting as a “peach,” left Warner surprised as he heard his stumps being shattered.
