Cody Walker’s State of Origin Hopes Dashed as South Sydney Rabbitohs Suffer Defeat: The Mole NRL News, Round 17 Recap 2023

Cody Walker had a golden opportunity to showcase his skills and secure a spot in Origin III. However, he unfortunately failed to deliver on Sunday night. The dominant Cowboys team crushed the Bunnies 31-6 on their home turf, leaving Walker frustrated and prone to making errors.

Walker’s performance at Accor Stadium was lackluster, as he missed five tackles, made three errors, and even gave away a penalty. It would be unfair to solely criticize the star five-eighth since he has had an impressive season overall.

Walker’s halves partner, Lachlan Ilias, also struggled, missing six tackles, two of which directly resulted in tries. Even skipper Cameron Murray had his fair share of struggles, missing four tackles and conceding two penalties.

Souths have been struggling lately, losing four out of their last five games and allowing their opponents to score 30 or more points in each match.

Despite the disappointment of Walker’s performance, there were some standout performances in the NRL. David Fifita, often criticized for his lack of involvement, delivered a spectacular game for the Titans, leading them to a surprising victory over Brisbane.

Meanwhile, Craig Bellamy continues to discover talented young players, and he has unearthed another gem in rookie Jonah Pezet. Pezet filled Cameron Munster’s shoes admirably, scoring a spectacular try and providing two assists with pinpoint kicks.

Tyrone Peachey, who was let go by the Tigers, has resurrected his career at the Panthers. In the absence of their Origin stars, Peachey and halfback Jack Cogger performed exceptionally well in Penrith’s win against Newcastle.

Bailey Simonsson has quietly become a try-scoring weapon for the Eels, with seven tries in his last six games. Despite flying under the radar, Simonsson’s contributions have been invaluable to the team.

Finally, the Warriors’ powerhouse back three, consisting of Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Marcelo Montoya, and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, played a crucial role in their dominant win over the Dragons. Watene-Zelezniak led the way with four outstanding tries, while his teammates also made significant contributions.

The NRL season is heating up, and these standout performances are proof of the incredible talent within the league.
