Details of Diablo 4 Season 1 Release Date, Battle Pass, and Character Reset

Diablo 4 has now officially launched worldwide, providing players with the opportunity to explore Sanctuary, create their ideal character build, and defeat the demon Lilith. While the game itself offers a substantial amount of content, fans may be eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first season, which will introduce a range of new features.

Details about Season 1 of Diablo 4 are currently limited. However, Blizzard has provided some key information about what players can expect from Season 1, including the potential contents of the Battle Pass and its release window. In this guide, we will delve into all the important details about the Battle Pass and Season 1 of Diablo 4.

Diablo 4 Season 1 Release Date and Content

As of now, the only information available about the release date of Season 1 is that it is scheduled for “mid-late July.” This information comes directly from Blizzard, who stated that Season 1 would arrive approximately a month and a half after the game’s initial launch on June 6. As June progresses, we can expect to receive more official details about the specific release date of Season 1.

In terms of content, Season 1 will introduce new questlines featuring both new and returning characters, balance changes for classes and gameplay items, new legendary items, and additional gameplay features. However, before accessing Season 1 content, players must complete the campaign of Diablo 4 with at least one character on their account. Blizzard advises players to accomplish this beforehand so that they can seamlessly transition into Season 1 when it becomes available.

Season 1 Battle Pass

The current look of the Season 1 Battle Pass

In addition to the aforementioned content, the first Battle Pass for Diablo 4 will be available in Season 1. Blizzard stresses that the Battle Pass is optional to purchase, and there will be 27 free tiers of content accessible to all players. However, those who choose to buy the Battle Pass can unlock those 27 free tiers as well as an additional 63 paid tiers.

Players can level up their Battle Pass simply by playing Diablo 4. Slaying demons, completing dungeons, and engaging in endgame content will all earn Battle Pass XP, allowing players to progress to the next tier. Alternatively, players can also use the Season Journey to quickly rank up their Battle Pass. It is worth noting that players will need to start a new character to access the Season 1 content, as confirmed by Rod Fergusson, adding some confusion and disappointment for some players.

The Season Journey allows players to complete objectives within Chapters, rewarding them with Favor. Favor is the currency used to rank up the Battle Pass from one tier to another. The more Favor earned, the faster players can reach tier 100. Completing objectives and Chapters in the Season Journey also grants players Murmuring Obols, Legendary Aspects, and other items. Each season of Diablo 4 is expected to last about three months, in line with the schedule of four seasons per year seen in many other games.

Battle Pass Price

One potential point of controversy with any Battle Pass in a live service game is the pricing model employed by developers. In Diablo 4, players have the option to purchase either the Premium or Accelerated track. The Premium version costs 1,000 Platinum ($10), while the Accelerated version costs 2,800 Platinum ($25). Players who purchased the Deluxe Edition of Diablo 4 will automatically unlock the Premium version, while Ultimate Edition buyers will receive the Accelerated version. The Accelerated version offers the additional benefit of 20 tier skips from the start, along with an exclusive cosmetic item.

Regarding cosmetics, the Diablo 4 Battle Pass in Season 1 will primarily feature various cosmetic rewards, including gold, emotes, character cosmetics, and titles. However, there will also be tiers offering Season Boosts and Smoldering Ashes as rewards. Season Boosts are essentially XP boosters for characters, while Smoldering Ashes are used to unlock Season Blessings. These blessings provide buffs that grant bonus XP, Gold, or Obols when active. Players can activate multiple Season Blessings simultaneously, allowing them to earn bonus XP, Gold, or Obols while playing.

One limitation with Season Blessings is that players must reach a certain character level to activate them. This effectively prevents players from “paying to win” by purchasing tier skips to immediately gain access to gameplay boosts.

More information about Diablo 4 Season 1 will be revealed as the summer progresses, so stay tuned for updates as the game’s inaugural season approaches.
