Eels Player Dylan Brown Exempted from NRL’s No-Fault Stand Down Policy Following Sydney Pub Incident in 2023

Clarification: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that Dylan Brown was cleared to resume playing. The correct information is as follows:

The NRL has confirmed that Dylan Brown, star player for the Parramatta Eels, will no longer be subject to the no-fault stand down condition. This comes after the finalization of the criminal charges against him.

Initially, Brown was subject to the NRL’s no-fault stand down policy due to being charged with five counts of sexual touching following an incident at the Golden Sheaf hotel in Sydney last month.

During the court proceedings at Downing Centre Local Court, Brown pleaded guilty to two of the charges, while the other three charges were withdrawn by the police.

He has been sentenced to an 18-month Community Correction Order as a result.

In addition, Brown will be placed under an apprehended personal violence order, which includes conditions such as not harassing, threatening, or stalking the victim.

The New Zealand international has issued an apology for his actions.

“First and foremost, I would like to offer my sincere apologies to the person involved and acknowledge the impact my behavior has had on them,” expressed Brown in a statement.

“I am deeply ashamed of my actions and take full responsibility for them. I would also like to apologize to everyone associated with the club for the negative repercussions caused by this incident. I am committed to learning from this experience.”
