Izack Rodda Sidelined for World Cup Due to Foot Injury

Wallabies lock Izack Rodda has unfortunately been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup due to a foot injury, as confirmed by coach Eddie Jones in a press conference on Friday. This is a setback for Rodda, who has experienced previous foot injuries and has now reaggravated the condition. As a result, he will not be able to participate in the World Cup.

Rodda, who is 26 years old, has represented Australia in 25 Tests since 2017. Despite his absence, fans can still enjoy the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific final on Stan Sport, which will provide ad-free, live, and on-demand streaming of all matches.

Coach Eddie Jones is set to announce his Rugby Championship squad on Sunday, ahead of the opening Test against the world champion Springboks in Pretoria on July 9 (AEST). He mentioned that prop Angus Bell, who is also recovering from a foot injury, may not be available for the first game. However, both star prop Taniela Tupou, who has an Achilles injury, and centre Samu Kerevi, who strained his hamstring, are still in contention for selection.

Jones provided an update on Tupou’s progress, stating that he has been training more this week and their plan for his recovery is going well. As for Kerevi, who sustained his injury while playing for the Barbarians under Jones’ coaching, he is expected to return to full training next week.

Reflecting on the extended training squad in Coogee, Jones expressed satisfaction with their performance. The team’s strong showing has created some tough decisions in the selection process, as they have to choose 33 players from a pool of 45 candidates.

Overall, the Wallabies are facing the challenge of replacing Rodda for the Rugby World Cup, but they remain hopeful with the potential return of Tupou and Kerevi. The team is focused on making informed decisions during the selection process and is determined to perform at their best in the upcoming tournament.
