Misleading: Old video of Delhi Congress leader Asif Khan’s confrontation with cop resurfaces with false ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ allegations

A 1 minute and 26-second-long video has gone viral on social media, depicting a heated altercation between a Congress leader and a police officer. The incident is alleged to have taken place in Madhya Pradesh, where the police officer was threatened by the Congress leader and his supporters for trying to prevent them from chanting pro-Pakistan slogans. The video was shared on Twitter by user Harsh Vyas, who claimed that if Congress comes to power, chaos will ensue. Several other Twitter users also shared the video with the same claim.

After conducting a thorough search on Google, we found a report from India Today that featured the same video back in November 2022. According to the report, the individual holding the microphone in the video was former Congress MLA Asif Khan, and the incident actually took place in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh locality. Khan had allegedly organized a gathering in support of his daughter, a Congress candidate in the Delhi municipal polls, without obtaining permission from the State Election Commission. Khan, along with two others, was later arrested for assault and criminal force intended to deter a public servant from discharging their duties.

It is noteworthy that none of the reports on this incident mention any pro-Pakistan slogans being raised. In fact, when we examined the original video, it is clear that the slogan being chanted was “Asif Khan Zindabad.” The false claim that the police officer was threatened for stopping pro-Pakistan slogans is not supported by any evidence.

In conclusion, the viral video capturing a confrontation between former Congress MLA Asif Khan and a police officer did not take place in Madhya Pradesh as claimed. The incident occurred in Delhi, and the false claim of pro-Pakistan slogans being raised has been debunked.
