New AFL Update for 2023: Journalist Caroline Wilson Reveals Worsening Relationship Between Gold Coast Suns and Coach Stuart Dew

Leading AFL journalist Caroline Wilson has reiterated her belief that the relationship between the Gold Coast Suns and coach Stuart Dew has soured following their loss to Port Adelaide. Wilson stated that this strained relationship is having a personal impact on the players. Additionally, she revealed that there has been a loss of faith in Dew from senior figures within the club.

Wilson specifically criticized Dew’s management of the playing group, pointing out the departure of star players such as Steven May and Tom Lynch to other clubs. She believes that these players were not treated well by Dew and that their careers have flourished since leaving the Suns.

Former Essendon player Matthew Lloyd echoed Wilson’s sentiments, suggesting that the trust within the football department has been affected. He emphasized that strong clubs do not experience such issues and argued that those who have spoken out against Dew have betrayed him.

The Gold Coast Suns have struggled in recent matches, losing three out of their last five games and currently sitting in 13th place on the AFL ladder. Wilson revealed that the AFL has had doubts about Dew for a long time.

However, despite these challenges, Wilson offered hope for the Suns. She cited the appointment of Brad Scott as coach of Essendon, which has seen the team rise to fifth place on the ladder. Wilson believes that the Suns need a strong and authoritative figure like Scott to lead the club.

The Suns will be facing St Kilda, who are currently in fifth place, in their upcoming match as they strive to keep their hopes of reaching the finals alive.
