Melbourne Storm star Ryan Papenhuyzen has provided his insights on the chances of New South Wales (NSW) forcing a series decider against Queensland in game two on Wednesday night.
Papenhuyzen, who has been unlucky in his attempts to represent the Blues in recent years, believes that the criticism of the NSW attack has been exaggerated.
“I personally believe that the criticism has been blown out of proportion,” he expressed during an interview with Wide World of Sports’ Freddy and the Eighth.
“For the majority of game one, I believe we were dominant. Our performance in the middle was commendable, and we only lacked a bit of finesse towards the end.
“We managed to break the defensive line multiple times, but Queensland displayed great scrambling defense to deny those tries. Hence, I don’t believe the situation is as dire as it is being portrayed.
“I anticipate that we will have a similar pack to the one we had in game one when we head to Queensland. They performed admirably, and with the addition of Mitchell Moses – a confident player who shares good chemistry with James Tedesco – I am optimistic about our chances.
“Although Suncorp Stadium presents a different challenge, I firmly believe that our current lineup is more than capable of securing a victory and bringing the series decider back home.”
“I’m not sure if my optimism stems from being a New South Welshman or my understanding of the game, but that’s my genuine perspective,” Papenhuyzen concluded.
