Sudipto Sen’s film, The Kerala Story, has emerged as one of the most talked-about Hindi films this year. Starring Adah Sharma in the lead role, the film has surpassed the box office earnings of Rs. 200 crore. However, the filmmakers are now facing difficulties in securing buyers for its OTT release.

In an exclusive interview with Rediff, filmmaker Sudipto Sen dismissed rumors suggesting that the film did not receive suitable offers from any OTT platforms. Instead, the makers accused Bollywood of colluding against them as a means of retribution for their box office success. Sudipto Sen stated, “So far, we haven’t received any offers that are worth considering. It appears that the film industry has united to punish us.”

He further expressed that the tremendous success of The Kerala Story at the box office has triggered envy and resentment within various sections of the film industry, leading to their collective effort to penalize the filmmakers.

Based on ‘true’ events, The Kerala Story has become the second highest-grossing film of 2023, second only to Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. Sudipto Sen recently revealed that he made the film with the intention of enlightening 100 crore Indians and believes that people have started discussing issues related to terrorism and love jihad as a result.

The film has sparked numerous debates on social media due to its contentious claims. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the general public to watch the film despite the ban. While the West Bengal government has prohibited the screening of the film in the state, Madhya Pradesh has declared it tax-free.

The plot of this controversial film revolves around a Hindu woman from Kerala who is indoctrinated and coerced into converting to Islam. She is then sent to Syria and forced to join the terrorist organization ISIS. Apart from Adah Sharma, The Kerala Story also features Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani in key roles.
