VR Headset Users Can Now Access Meta Quest+ – Meta’s New Subscription Service

Meta Platforms unveiled an innovative subscription-based service called Meta Quest+ for its virtual reality (VR) headsets, aiming to make a significant impact in the emerging and highly lucrative VR market.

In a live broadcast on Instagram, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta Quest+ would be available starting Monday at a monthly price of $7.99 (approximately Rs. 655) or an annual subscription fee of $59.99 (approximately Rs. 4,920). This offering will initially be available for Quest 2 and Pro headsets, with plans to expand to Quest 3 in the near future.

Though Apple has entered the VR market, dominated by Meta, by introducing its augmented reality headset, Vision Pro, priced at $3,499 (approximately Rs. 2,86,900), it is worth noting that Apple’s headset is three times more expensive than Meta’s highest-priced headset.

To capture greater market share, Meta reduced the prices of its headsets in March due to the underperformance of its ambitious metaverse strategy.

According to Meta’s website, the flagship Meta Quest Pro headset is currently priced at $999.99 (approximately Rs. 82,000), down from its original launch price of $1,499.99 (approximately Rs. 1,23,000), while Quest 2 is available at $299.99 (approximately Rs. 24,600).

Although virtual reality headsets have advanced features, their adoption has primarily been limited to the gaming community, thus hindering their potential as the next big thing in technology.

The Meta Quest+ subscription service includes two carefully selected VR titles every month, allowing users to explore the full capabilities of their headsets. For a limited time, Meta is offering the first month at a discounted price of just $1 (Rs. 82) for new subscribers who sign up before July 31.

In an official statement, Meta described Meta Quest+ as an affordable and curated experience, valued at up to $60 per month, which aims to provide gamers on Meta Quest with a fresh perspective.

At its annual developer conference, Apple announced its first mixed reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, alongside new Mac models and upcoming software updates.
