The Incredible Hulk makes its debut on Disney+, but when can we expect a new Hulk movie?

Disney+ has added a forgotten gem to its collection – The Incredible Hulk. The movie, which debuted on Friday, June 16th, marks the arrival of one of the oldest MCU films on the streaming service.

Although there are several reasons why The Incredible Hulk is considered the black sheep of the MCU, the most significant one is the recasting of the title character. Edward Norton originally portrayed Bruce Banner, but Mark Ruffalo took over the role in The Avengers and all subsequent Marvel Studios projects.

The reason for The Incredible Hulk‘s delayed arrival on Disney+ is the distribution rights held by Universal Pictures for 15 years. As the 15-year period has now ended, the film has finally found its way to the streaming platform.

What does this mean for the future of the Hulk in the MCU? It’s a question that many of us are asking. While Marvel could potentially create its own live-action Hulk movie or TV show, there’s no guarantee that they will. The recent conclusion of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law hints at Marvel’s plans for the character, but with Mark Ruffalo’s already extensive portrayal, it’s uncertain if he has a feature-length Hulk movie in him.

Notably, the final episode of She-Hulk introduced Hulk’s son, Skaar, portrayed by Wil Deusner. If Ruffalo isn’t interested in leading a Hulk movie or Marvel wants to explore a new direction, Skaar could potentially fill the void.

Rumors of a World War Hulk movie have circulated for years, based on the popular comic book storyline where Hulk returns to Earth after being banished and takes on numerous Marvel heroes. Whether this will become a reality is unknown, but with the rescheduling of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, Phase 5 and Phase 6 have opportunities to fill. Fans may hope for more news at Comic-Con.
