Blues head coach Brad Fittler is taking a bold step by including Origin rookie Reece Robson in the starting lineup for the upcoming crucial match against Queensland. Robson, initially named on the bench, is set to replace Souths’ Damien Cook as the number nine due to the injury of Api Koroisau.
Despite Cook’s experience, having played in 16 Origins since his debut in 2018, Fittler has been secretly training with Robson in the starting team while Cook will be utilized as a substitute. This decision is a risk considering Robson’s lack of experience in the sky blue jumper, but Fittler and his assistant Greg Alexander have been impressed by Robson’s toughness and durability, having played every minute of all 14 games for the Cowboys this year.
However, Cook’s dynamic acceleration and speed out of dummy-half still make him a valuable asset for the Blues. Fittler plans to unleash Cook later in the first half, relying on his ability to exploit the tired Queensland forwards and create game-changing opportunities.
There have been speculations about the hooker switch, but it has been confirmed that the change will indeed occur, and the Blues are fully committed to starting with Robson.
